1, 2-propanediol is an organic compound, chemical formula C3H8O2, miscible with water, ethanol and a variety of organic solvents.  Normal for colorless viscous liquid, almost tasteless, smell slightly sweet.  Propyle ne glycol can be used as a raw material for unsaturated polyester resins, in cosmetics, toothpaste and soaps with glycerin or sorbitol as a wetting agent.  It is used in hair colorants for dampening, smoothing, antifreeze, cellophane, plasticizer and pharmaceutical industry. 

Application
1, 2-propyle ne glycol is an important raw material of unsaturated polyester, epoxy resin, polyurethane resin, plasticizer and surfactant, which accounts for about 45% of the total consumption of propyle ne glycol. This unsaturated polyester is widely used in surface coatings and reinforced plastics.  1, 2-propanediol has good viscosity and hygroscopicity, and is widely used as hygroscopicity, antifreeze, lubricant and solvent in food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.  In the food industry, 1, 2-propyle ne glycol and fatty acid reaction to produce propyle ne glycol fatty acid ester, mainly used as food emulsifier;  1, 2-propanediol is an excellent solvent for flavoring and pigment.  Because of its low toxicity, it is used as a solvent for spices and edible pigments in the food industry.  1, 2-propyle ne glycol in the pharmaceutical industry is often used to manufacture all kinds of ointments, ointments solvent, softener and excipient, in the pharmaceutical industry as a mixture, preservatives, ointments, vitamins, penicillin and other solvents.  Because propyle ne glycol and all kinds of spices have good mutual solubility, so it is also used as a cosmetic solvent and softener and so on.  1, 2-propyle ne glycol is also used as a tobacco humidifier, mildew inhibitor, food processing equipment lubricating oil and food marking ink solvent.  Aqueous solution of 1, 2-propanediol is an effective antifreeze agent.  Also used as tobacco wetting agent, mildew inhibitor, fruit ripening preservative, antifreeze and heat carrier.
