Also known as alpha-naphthoquinone. Has a distinctive smell of benzoquinon e. Flash point 141°C. It is insoluble. Density 1.422. Melting point 126~128ºC. When the temperature exceeds 100ºC, it sublimates, slightly soluble in water and gasolin e, easily soluble in ethanol when heated, soluble in ether, chlorofor m, benzene, glacial acetic acid and carbon disulfide. It breaks down and explodes when heated strongly. It evaporates with steam. Used in dyes, drugs, fungicides, also used as synthetic rubber and resin polymerization regulator. It is prepared by oxidation of 1-amino-4-naphthol.
