Dimethyl  carbonate is a colorless transparent liquid with a molecular weight of 90.08. The relative density is 1.0694; Melting point 2 ~ 4ºC; Boiling point 90 ~ 91ºC, 42ºC (1.60×104Pa); Flash point 21.7ºC, 16.7ºC (closed); Refractive index 1.3687, soluble in water (13.9 at 20ºC), aceton e, chlorofor m, toluen e, soluble in ethanol, inorganic acid and alkali solution. Its molecular structure contains carbonyl, methyl and methoxyl functional groups, with a variety of reaction properties, in the production with safe use, convenient, less pollution, easy transportation and other characteristics, can provide methylation, carbonylation and acylation groups, to replace the environmental pollution of phosgene, dimethyl sulfate and so on.
