Methyla l is a colorless and clear volatile flammable liquid, with chlorofor m odor and irritating taste. Soluble in 3 times water (32% solubility in water at 20ºC); Relatively stable to alkali; When heated with dilute hydrochloric  acid, it is easy to decompose into formaldehyde and methano l. Methyla l is irritating to mucous membranes and has an anesthetic effect. Inhalation of vapors can cause nose and throat irritation; Dizziness and so on after high concentration inhalation. It is damaging to the eyes and can last for days. Prolonged skin contact can dry the skin. When exposed to air or light, methyla l can form potentially explosive peroxides.
