Propylen e oxide is a colorless ether flavor liquid, low boiling point, flammable. Chiral, industrial products are generally racemic mixtures of two enantiomers. Propylen e oxide is partially miscible with water, and miscible with ethanol and ether. Propylen e oxide forms a binary azeotrope with pentan e, pentene, cyclopentan e, cyclopenten e, dichloromethan e. Propylen e oxide is toxic, irritating to mucous membranes and skin, can damage the cornea and conjunctiva, cause respiratory pain, skin burns and swelling, and even tissue necrosis. Propylen e oxide is mainly used in the production of polyether polyols, propylen e glycol and various non-ionic surfactants, is an important basic chemical raw material, widely used in chemical, light industry, medicine, food, textile and other industries
