Styrene (C8H8) is an organic compound formed by replacing one hydrogen atom of ethylene with styrene, and the ethylenyl electrons are conjugated with benzene ring. It is insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol and ether, and gradually polymerized and oxidized when exposed to air. In industry, it is an important monomer of synthetic resin, ion exchange resin and synthetic rubber.
 The most important usage is as a monomer for synthetic rubber and plastics.
Styrene itself is flammable, and it is mixed into the paint to give the paint fire, explosion and flame retardant functions.
