At very high concentrations, tetrachloroethylen e can cause dizziness, headache, drowsiness, confusion, nausea, difficulty speaking and walking, loss of consciousness, and death. Because tetrachloroethylen e is stored in body fat and slowly released into the blood, tetrachloroethylen e can be detected in the breath for several weeks after severe exposure. Most of the tetrachloroethylen e ends up in water or soil, where it evaporates into the air. Microorganisms can break down tetrachloroethylen e in some soils or groundwater. In the air, tetrachloroethylen e is broken down into other chemicals by sunlight, or returned to soil and water by rainfall.
