Silicon dioxide is insoluble in water, insoluble in acid, but soluble in hydrofluoric aci d and hot concentrated phosphoric aci d, and can work with molten bases. Silica is widely used, mainly used in glass, water glass, pottery, enamel and so on. Pure natural silica crystal, is a hard, brittle, insoluble colorless transparent solid, often used in the manufacture of optical instruments.
