N- hexan e is an organic compound, molecular formula C6H14, belongs to the straight chain saturated aliphatic hydrocarbons, obtained by crude  oil cracking and fractionation, has a weak special odor colorless liquid. It is volatile, almost insoluble in water, soluble in chlorofor m, ether, ethanol. Mainly used as a solvent, such as vegetable oil extraction solvent, propylen e polymerization solvent, rubber and paint solvent, pigment thinner, for soybean, rice bran, cottonseed and other edible oils and spices in the oil extraction. In addition, n- hexan e isomerization is one of the important processes for producing high-octane gasolin e blending components.

Application

Most of the n- Hexan e used in industry is mixed with similar chemicals called solvents. The major use for solvents containing n- Hexan e is to extract vegetable oils from crops such as soybeans. These solvents are also used as cleaning agents in the printing, textile, furniture, and shoe making industries. Certain kinds of special glues used in the roofing and shoe and leather industries also contain n- Hexan e.
